ACCREDITATION
In 2016 the National SafeCare Training and Research Center began an annual accreditation process with all agencies.
Benefits of SafeCare Accreditation
Through the accreditation process, your agency will have access to:
- The most up-to-date SafeCare implementation materials
- The most recent SafeCare publications and research
- Updated SafeCare marketing materials for caregivers and referral agents
- The latest technology to support your SafeCare implementation
- Opportunity to consult about difficulties and concerns regarding SafeCare delivery
- Assurance to funders that your agency is conducting SafeCare as designed and tested
Accreditation Process
Eligible agencies provide documentation of compliance with the SafeCare Standards by submitting information through an online survey. The survey is reviewed by NSTRC’s Accreditation Specialist and a follow-up telephone interview is scheduled. Upon completion of the interview, the agency is notified of their accreditation status. Agencies that successfully complete the review process are awarded a 12-month accreditation. Corrective plans are outlined for agencies that do not meet minimum requirements for accreditation and, if appropriate, a second review is scheduled after a designated period.
The following are the core SafeCare standards for implementation.
- Implement SafeCare sessions as prescribed, ensuring that fundamental structure, measurement, and mastery criteria are maintained and achieved. These include:
- SafeCare delivery is no more than twice a week and no less than every two weeks
- Providers utilize the SafeCare Provider Manual and follow session outlines
- Standardized SafeCare module assessments are consistently used to document parents’ skills, before, during, and after SafeCare training sessions
- Providers continue SafeCare sessions until the caregiver achieves the criteria of mastery or success on SafeCare’s skills
- Conduct ongoing quality assurance of staff’s SafeCare responsibilities:
- SafeCare Providers, Coaches, and Trainers maintain activity requirements
- Active SafeCare staff receive the required amount of support for their highest trained level and certification status (e.g., monthly coaching for certified Providers, biannual cross-check of certified Coaches, annual observation of certified Trainer).
- Maintain SafeCare implementation standards:
- Each staff practices only at the level trained (e.g., a Provider is not performing coaching; coaches are not training new staff)
- Materials are not shared for use with staff not trained in SafeCare without explicit permission from NSTRC
- Agency’s information is up to date on the SafeCare portal, to include:
- All SafeCare professionals are registered on portal and their status (active vs. not-active) is up-to-date
- All active SafeCare professionals are utilizing the portal for SafeCare certification and support activities (e.g., entering fidelity scores), unless this requirement has been explicitly waived.
- All SafeCare staff are using the most updated version of materials (Version 4) to deliver SafeCare with families and support the SafeCare implementation.
- At least 50% of the agency’s available SafeCare Providers are active (i.e., delivered SafeCare to a family in the past month).
