IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS
"Parenting is hard work and takes a variety of strategies and methods to ensure we are raising strong, safe and stable children. That's the difference that SafeCare makes."
-SafeCare Provider
Interested agencies are asked to complete the SafeCare Application. An agency’s responses to this application help the NSTRC to learn about the organization (i.e., their readiness for intervention, availability of resources, staffing, operating policies, and procedures).
A follow-up call is scheduled after the survey is received. The purpose of the call is to learn more about how SafeCare will be implemented in the agency and discuss specific strategies to set up the implementation for success.
SafeCare Orientation and Supervisor Seminar: This 2-part seminar consists of a 3-hour Orientation followed by a 2-hour Supervisor Mini-Training. All staff to be trained as Providers should attend the Orientation (part 1). We also ask that direct supervisors, agency leadership and stakeholders, and organizations that contribute to an organization’s referral process attend the orientation to receive a clear understanding of the SafeCare Model, process, and anticipated outcomes.
Part 2 (the Supervisor Seminar) should be attended by supervisors/leadership that will need a deeper understanding of SafeCare. The most salient pieces of the 4-day workshop are pulled and condensed so supervisors can see the session outlines and goals, the provider and parent materials, assessment measures, certification requirements, and data tracking system. This live seminar builds upon Part 1.
Trainees will attend a 4-day Provider workshop to learn the SafeCare curriculum. The workshop includes didactic instruction, interactive activities, and session role-plays. After the workshop, NSTRC Trainers monitor the Providers' fidelity for approximately 6 months as they work towards certification.
Once Coach trainees achieve Provider certification and are ready to transition to the Coach role, they complete a 2-day Coach Workshop. The workshop prepares SafeCare Coaches to monitor the fidelity of SafeCare Providers. Coaches are supported by NSTRC Trainers for about 6 months as they work towards certification.
NSTRC works with agencies to develop a sustainability plan that is appropriate for their implementations. SafeCare Coaches will continue to provide fidelity monitoring for the agency SafeCare Providers. Certified Coaches may also be trained as SafeCare Trainers. This option allows agencies to train new Providers and Coaches internally at their agency. All agencies will complete annual Accreditation to confirm that they are adhering to NSTRC quality standards. Click here to learn more about the Accreditation process.
