OUR HISTORY
“She came into the program very unsure of parenting and making decisions on behalf of her child. Now with only three sessions left to complete the program, she is an informed, confident decision maker.”
- SafeCare Provider
Evidence-based From the Beginning
SafeCare was first implemented in LA county in the 1990s as part of a special grant program. Research documenting the success of this implementation led to the selection of SafeCare as a program for parents referred for child physical abuse and neglect to the Oklahoma child protective service system. Research documenting the success of the Oklahoma implementation offered further support for the SafeCare model. These important research studies served as a foundation for Doris Duke funding to develop the National SafeCare Training and Research Center, which was established in 2007, and led to the formal dissemination of SafeCare across the United States and abroad.
